The dark web, or darknet, refers to private networks built from connections between trusted peers using unconventional protocols. In June a hacker claimed to be selling 655,000 alleged patient healthcare records on the dark web, containing information such as social security numbers, addresses, and insurance details.
A hacker was reportedly looking to sell 117 million passwords from a 2012 LinkedIn breach on the dark web earlier this year.
